Life Update

One of my favorite things about blogging is when we get to be let in on little pieces of blogger's lives. I love knowing what is going on in your world, what is new, what is on your heart, etc. I realize that makes me sound a little strange, but its okay. I can embrace it. The thing is, sometimes our carefully crafted blog posts leave little room for the details.

There's something to be said for not putting every detail of your life on the internet, but I like reading about your lives, and so I decided today, you should read about mine. If you don't feel like reading about my unexciting details, that won't hurt my feelings.

At the beginning of the year, I wrote out a list of intentions. Of things I wanted to focus on, areas I want to grow in, and dreams I had. So, in the third month of the year, I'm just going to share with you a little about how some of them are going.

My main goal this year was to spend consistent time in God's word and in prayer. I want this year to be a year of growth in my relationship with God. I started out this year by going through the Wife After God study which was incredible, and it challenged me to specifically pray for my husband and marriage every day. I also joined a bible study here at our church that met every Monday night. We went through a book called "She's Got Issues" and it changed my life friends. It dealt with the issues many of us women face like fear, anxiety, control, and comparisons. I loved the community of women I was in and felt like God showed me a lot especially in regards to anxiety and comparisons.

That bible study ended Monday, but starting next Thursday, a few of the ladies I serve in the Youth Group with and I will be meeting at 5:45 every Thursday morning for another Bible Study. Although its early, I absolutely love starting my day off with time in the word and can't wait to get to do it with friends. I've seen fruits of my discipline and steps I've taken to grow, and can't wait to see how it continues in the rest of 2014.

I've been working on getting back up to running 5 miles-it was a goal of mine for February but the cold and dreary days made it so hard for me. I did sign up for a 5 mile St Patricks Day Race next week though. Running has been much easier lately because it's gorgeous outside and I've been just itching to get out of the office and pound pavement everyday at lunch.

Like I mentioned, going through that Wife After God book was such a blessing, and Ronnie and I just started reading Real Marriage together by Mark Driscoll. We've also set a weekly time for us to spend time together, to share prayer requests and pray for each other, and to ask each other how we're doing, and what we could do to love one another better. We are going to do this over breakfast every Saturday morning, whether its at home on the couch or out at one of our favorite shops.

I know-you're probably thinking, why can't they just talk about this stuff all the time? And we do talk about it, but not as consistently and regularly as we should. Its so easy to not be intentional with your marriage. I honestly don't think marriage is "hard" as I am married to a really easy going, selfless guy. But we're both busy, we're tired, and sometimes our conversations revolve around what we're having for dinner and should we watch Scandal or Chicago PD. (Scandal for the Win!) This time on Saturday mornings is just to be sure that we are checking in with each other regularly, intentionally spending time together, and loving each other well.

I am currently studying for my PHR which is a professional certificate for Human Resource professionals. The test is REALLY hard, so I've been studying for that a lot. I am on a semester long break from working on my masters while I study for that. Ronnie is going back to school this fall which is REALLY exciting. Can't wait to both be students together! Just kidding, school is hard and not so fun. But, important and necessary and I can't wait to be done.

So thats some of the details of our lives, probably way more than you needed to know.

  1. I absolutely love this post! It's very inspiring. I am currently reading Wife after God and it's wonderful so far! I think it's so important to make and schedule time together for reading and praying as a couple. If it's not scheduled, a lot of the time it'll never happen! I have to admit, my husband and I could do better about scheduling that time together. I see the negative effects when we don't. I'm interested in the Real Marriage book. How do you like it?

  2. It is so much easier to get out for those runs when the weather is a bit nicer. I think it is important to set a time to discuss relationships even if you do talk about it frequently those set times make you take those conversations a bit deeper so I love hearing you guys have a similar plan.

  3. My life update is just basically I spent my days talking to you on gchat and laughing with you.

    That's about it.

  4. I am crazy and I love love love reading about the little details of peoples lives too! Especially their goals and what they are doing to achieve them! I love what you are doing to be more intentional with your marriage - I need to take a page from your book!

  5. Oh I love this post! So inspirational.

  6. I can't wait to start running outside again, but I'll still always prefer the treadmill!

  7. I've heard so many good things about wife after God, I just need to buy it and read it pronto!

  8. I love, love, love this post! I need to check out this book the two of you are reading!

  9. love your heart in these goals, friend!

  10. I agree, I think it's so important for couples to carve out some time for 'quality discussion time.' I mean, sure Tim and I probably SHOULD talk about the deeper stuff more often, but life (and episodes of The Voice) get in the way on a daily basis! I think intentional date nights (which we don't do enough) can definitely help with this one.

  11. I think when people are together they have to spend some real quality and a little quantity time together... I think that is imperative... awesome post as usual :)

  12. Love reading this. :)
Love having you as a sister in Christ!
Can't wait to hear about Real Marriage! I have Tim Keller's Meaning of Marriage, but the Driscoll book is on my list too!! xx

  13. I love reading other people's goals! I really inspires me to list mine and work on them. Especially running, this beautiful weather is sure to fuel my runs.

  14. I absolutely LOVE all these goals. I need to redo Wife After God.

  15. I really enjoyed reading this update!

  16. It's awesome to reflect on what's been happening in your life
